Hi! I’m Sho, a local resident and hiker living in Nagasaki. Welcome to “Explore Nagasaki”, a travel guide dedicated to active travelers, digital nomads, tea/coffee lovers, and nature lovers.
Who am I?
I am not a travel agent, nor a typical tourist guide. I am a “Local Insider” in my 30s, currently balancing a full-time career with graduate studies.
I was born and raised in this beautiful prefecture, Nagasaki. After spending years seeing the world, I returned here with a new appreciation for my hometown.
My Background: A Fellow Traveler
I understand the challenges of traveling because I have been in your shoes.
Backpacker: In my student days, I spent a year backpacking through Europe and Asia.
Expat: I also lived and worked in Southeast Asia for two years as an expatriate.
I know how frustrating it can be trying to figure out the most efficient local transport routes, or finding accurate schedules and English information in rural areas. That is why I want to be the bridge for you.
My Three Passions
A Mountaineer: I spend my weekends exploring hidden trails in Nagasaki, which are rarely introduced in English guidebooks.
A Data Enthusiast: I believe travel plans should be based on facts. As a graduate student studying Statistics and Public Health, I analyze local data (like weather and crowds) to give you the most accurate advice possible.
A Coffee Enthusiast: I roast my own coffee beans and love searching for quiet cafes with fast Wi-Fi where I can focus on my work.
Why I started this blog?
While there are many travel websites about Japan, I found that most of them lack “Real” and “Practical” information for international visitors—especially for regional cities like Nagasaki.
“Which bus should I take to get to the trailhead?”
“Is the Wi-Fi fast enough for a Zoom call?”
“What is the weather really like in June based on data?”
“What is the most efficient itinerary for a 1-day trip?”
“What are the best spots outside Nagasaki City, and how do I get there?”
I created this blog to answer these questions with accurate data and local experience.
Looking Ahead: My Future Vision
Currently, I share Nagasaki’s charm through words and data, but my dream is to guide you in person. I am preparing to launch exclusive guided tours in the future, focusing on:
City Walking & History: Deep dives into Nagasaki’s unique history.
Mountain Hiking: Guiding you safely to the peaks with the best views.
Cross-Regional Cultural Journeys: Unique experiences that connect Nagasaki with neighboring prefectures, exploring the wider cultural heritage of Kyushu.
Let’s Explore Together
My mission is not just to provide one-way information, but to create an interactive platform where I can listen and respond to your needs. I want to know what YOU want to know.
Please feel free to send me questions or share what you loved about Nagasaki. I want to reflect your voices in my future articles and grow this platform with you.
Let’s discover the authentic side of Nagasaki together!
